Stephen Little’s art practice explores alternatives to common models and conventions employed in the classification of painting. As a critical art practice his work reflects on a range of material, conceptual and perceptual shifts that continue to generate anomalies, and provoke pertinent questions about painting’s classification and its continuing indiscernibility.
Little’s approach seeks to highlight painting’s unorthodox potential by identifying and re-classifying painting through other means. In Equinox, Little’s work - comprising up-scaled autographs, sound and colour, corrupts assumed relations and stable boundaries to generate new propositions, meanings and resonances towards a re-evaluation of agency in painting.
